Tony's brother, Bill had posted an e-bio of tony some years ago (see http://users.tpg.com.au/adsligol/tony/). Since then he has received myriads of messages urging him to write a comprehensive bio of tony. This he has done at last and it is a work of love.

The book is called 'Anthony deMello SJ, The Happy Wanderer - a Tribute to my Brother.'

Having been associated with the book I can tell you that there are lovely anecdotes, little-known episodes about Tony and a lot on the internal working of the Society of Jesus.

But what is best is the inside look at Tony and what made him tick.
The book will be released on the evening of the 21 st of April 2012 at St. Peter's Church Hall, Bandra. Tony died on 1st June 1987 at Fordham University, New York. This year makes it 25 years since that happened.

Tony may have left this mortal but he lives on through his books and video/audio recordings.

Incidentally, in case you d
id not know, there is an "anthony demello group" on face book which you can join if you wish.

All the best
Clifford

Here is what Bill deMello has posted on his facebook page:

Book Review: Seek God Everywhere -
Reflections on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius

By Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat

Seek God Everywhere
Reflections on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius
Anthony de Mello
Image/Doubleday 02/10 Paperback $14.00
ISBN: 9780385531764

Anthony de Mello (1931 - 1987) was the director of the Sadhana Institute of Pastoral Counseling in Pune, India. A Jesuit priest in the province of Bombay, he was known throughout the world for his writing and speaking at spiritual conferences. De Mello pioneered a post-denominational Christianity and proclaimed a lyrical mysticism rooted in story and imagination. He is best known for his books Awareness and Sadhana.

This spiritually illuminating paperback is based on a course de Mello gave in 1975 on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. A religious classic, it is divided into four parts and can be used for a four-week retreat. The first week focuses on sin and repentance; the second on the life of Jesus Christ; the third on Christ's passion and death; and the fourth on his resurrection and risen life. Written 450 years ago, the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius are given a fresh interpretation by de Mello.

He begins with a meditation on the importance of silence in drawing closer to God: it enables us to develop a home to ourselves, a place to touch the wellsprings of life inside of us. De Mello believes that falling in love with the Absolute is possible while on the path of adoration. This is the natural outgrowth of the spiritual practice of reverence. Although most believers are still imprisoned in a view of sin as acts, deeds, laws, and obligations, Jesus linked it to a refusal to grow, to love, to take the leap of faith. De Mello addresses the feelings of worthlessness among so many who have taken the traditional concept of sin to heart: "We have to communicate to people their goodness," he writes.

Whether talking about the spiritual senses, the gravity of the heart that rests in God, finding peace, getting rid of inordinate attachments, the challenges of finding out what God wants of us, the difficulties in unselfing the self, and the many spiritual teachings given by Mahatma Gandhi, de Mello opens new doors for us to see more clearly the process of spiritual maturation. As would be expected, this creative Jesuit teacher hits high stride while discussing the meaning of St. Ignatius' admonition to "Seek the presence of the Lord in all things." To feel and to contemplate this presence is the essence of devotion.

Eternal truths

No sector is

as important as the public

Refusing to release oneself, to let go

and not knowing peace,

is similar to dying a slow death.

Being in the present you will not have misery

Our lives are shadows

of our thoughts

If you can rise above your thoughts

You can rise above your misery

Change money into merit

Change capital into Dhamma

"Know" your every thought, activity

word and move.

With every move, always be conscious

Realising your own defects

is as worthy as being

on the path of enlightenment

No work is worthless

if it is done with dignity

Live as if it is the last day

Die like you are still alive

Among all the prosperous

things, wisdom is the best

A problem occurs

in order to be solved,

not to be an excuse.

Do not be so greedy

as to ignore the truth

Reduce want

and you will feel happier

If today you are right

Tomorrow you will be wrong

The Woman In Your Life

T
he woman in your life......

Tomorrow you may get a working woman,
you should marry her with these facts as well.
or if you are married, you must appreciate these facts...

Here is a girl,
who is possibly as much educated as you are;
Who is earning almost as much as you do;

One, who has dreams and aspirations just as
you have because she is as human as you are;

One, who has never entered the kitchen in her life just like you or your Sister haven't, as she was busy in studies and competing in a system that gives no special concession to girls for their culinary achievements ....

One, who has lived and loved her parents & brothers & sisters, almost as much as you do for 20-25 years of her life;

One, who has bravely agreed to leave behind all that, her home, people who love her, to adopt your home, your family, your ways and even your family, name ..

One, who is somehow expected to be a master-chef from day #1, while you sleep oblivious to her predicament in her new circumstances, environment and that kitchen...

One, who is expected to make the tea, first thing in the morning and cook food at the end of the day, even if she is as tired as you are, may be even more, and yet never ever expected to complain; to be a servant, a cook, a mother, a wife, even if she doesn't want to; and is learning just like you are as to what you want from her; and is clumsy and sloppy at times and knows that you won't like it if she is too demanding, or if she learns faster than you;

One, who has her own set of friends, and that includes boys and even men at her workplace too, those, who she knows from school days and yet is willing to put all that on the back-burners to avoid your irrational jealousy, unnecessary competition and your inherent insecurities;

Yes, she can drink and dance just as well as you can, but won't, simply Because you won't like it, even though you say otherwise ...

One, who can be late from work once in a while when deadlines, just like yours, are to be met;

One, who is doing her level best and wants to make this most important, relationship in her entire life a grand success, if you just help her some and trust her;

One, who just wants one thing from you, as you are the only one she knows in your entire house - your unstinted support, your sensitivities and most importantly - your understanding, or love, if you may call it.

But not many guys understand this......

Please appreciate "HER"

I hope you will do....

Respect Her.

When has money, rides same in Gym.

When without money, walks to earn food
When has money, walks to lose the fat

Man O Man ! never fails to deceive thyself !

When without money, wishes to get married;
When has money, wishes to get divorced.

When without money, wife becomes secretary;
When has money, secretary becomes wife.

When without money, acts like rich man;
When has money, acts like poor man.

Man, O Man, never can tell the simple truth !

Says share market is bad but keeps speculating;
Says money is evil but keeps accumulating.

Says high positions are lonely but keeps wanting them.
Says gambling & drinking is bad but keeps indulging;

Man O Man ! Never means what he says and never says what he means!

Do you have an insurmountable problem?

It is fascinating to read the stories, many of them legendary, about
the late Houdini. That masterful magician was probably a better
locksmith than he was a magician. He had a standing challenge that he could get out of any locked jail in 60 mins, providing they would let him enter in his regular clothes and not watch him work.

One of the stories is about a little town in the British Isles that
decided to challenge and (perhaps embarrass) the great Houdini. This town had just completed an escape-proof jail and so the townsfolk invited Houdini to come to see if he could break out.
He accepted the challenge. He was allowed to enter the jail in his
street clothes. People later said they saw the locksmith turn the lock in a strange way and then with the clang of steel, everybody turned their backs and left him alone to work. Houdini had hidden a long flexible steel rod in his belt, which is what he used to try to trip the lock. He worked for 35 mins.he kept his ear close to the lock - 45mins and then an hour passed; he was perspiring. After 2 hours, he was exhausted. He leaned against the door, and to his amazement, it fell open. They had never locked the door!! It was their trick on the great escape artist!

MORAL: The door was only locked in Houdini's mind. that's the ONLY place it was locked! Some of you think that you cant overcome your problem. The only place where it is impossible is in your thinking.That's the only thing that's locked.
